The Darkness Frontman Mocks Ozzy's Backstage Lockdown

The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins took to Twitter recently to mock the security measures that preceded Ozzy Osbourne's arrival at Sweden Rock Fest.

Bands often speak fondly of festival season because it gives them opportunities to fraternize with other artists and take in sets they wouldn't normally get to see.

But being that the Prince of Darkness isn't your typical working rocker. He's a mega-celebrity idolized by rockers worldwide. He's got handlers for his handlers, and a damn-near Presidential-level security detail who don't allow any funny business around a man who once stripped naked at dinner in Germany and urinated into a fellow diner's wine carafe.

The scene backstage at Sweden Rock Fest was much less festive, however. Hawkins described via Twitter how none of the acts were allowed out of their dressing rooms while Ozzy was arriving.

"Heaven forbid the main attraction should have to endure an encounter with a fellow artiste..." Hawkins's sarcastic Tweet read.

But the "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" singer continued, saying this isn't the first time Ozzy's security detail has seemed to exceed necessary precaution for the former Black Sabbath frontman.

He recalled once being invited to interview the Ozzman. But the terms of engagement were untenable.

"[We] were to be collected in a 'blacked-in car' so we couldn't see where we were being driven to," Hawkins wrote. "I (im)politely declined the opportunity."

Ozzy probably gets bothered a lot for photos and autographs, and surely that gets tiring. But backstage at a big rock festival, you'd think the other musicians would be a little more professional than to mob him.

And locking down the whole backstage area just so Ozzy can walk to his dressing room, seems like it might make his arrival a bigger hubbub than it needs to be.

A great way to draw attention to yourself is to announce that everyone must refrain from paying attention to you immediately!
