Billy Corgan shared a personal update on Instagram Thursday morning (January 9), revealing that he and his family were in Los Angeles and forced to "to evacuate with nowhere to go" as wildfires continue to devastate the area. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman shared a video he'd recorded the day before and explained that since recording the clip "we had to evacuate as a family from where we were staying."

"The situation here in Los Angeles is very overwhelming and at times chaotic but our love to the first responders who so courageously run into these situations," he added in the caption. "I have some video of the one fire that (thank God) was put out and for which it appears there was no loss of life as some homes burned and also started brush fires down a ridge; which being about 250 yards from where we were forced us to evacuate with nowhere to go."

"Praying for everyone today as hopefully this can come under control for the entire area, which is vast in scope and so full of nature," Corgan continued." The loss overall is awful and unspeakable and that is what I wish to highlight; as the fires touch every strata of society."

Since the first fire was reported at 10:30pm PT on Tuesday (January 7), nearly 180,000 people are under evacuation orders and up to 2,000 buildings have been severely damaged or destroyed. At least five people have died in relation to the six wildfires, and "likely more" are expected. A number of celebrities have lost their homes in the natural disaster, including Paris Hilton, Anna Farris, and Eugene Levy.
